I am preparing to hold a workshop for teenagers later in the week on the environment, and hoping to give the tools to face the threats of climate change and biodiversity collapse with hope and courage. You can see how I got on the last time I did something like this way back in 2019 here: https://oisinohalmhain.ie/2020/04/15/climate-camp-part-ii-what-we-did. It got me thinking of some of the resources in the form of books I use, and have used over the years, which I have tried to get from the library to bring along with me,

The first is Oisín McGann’s Short Hopeful Guide to climate change. As Ronseal might say, it does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s very accessible even for younger teenagers, and you can get it from the library here https://dublincity.spydus.ie/cgi-bin/spydus.exe/FULL/WPAC/BIBENQ/214526009/2338518,2 or as an eBook. You can also buy your own copy from Kenny’s bookshop https://www.kennys.ie/shop/A-Short-Hopeful-Guide-to-Climate-Change-Ois-n-McGann-9781912417742

Next is Mike Berber’s-Lee How Bad are Bananas. Again the library has the 2010 version of it, https://dublincity.spydus.ie/cgi-bin/spydus.exe/FULL/WPAC/BIBENQ/214526749/4197552,2, but maybe every home should have a copy. And Kenny’s have the newest version here https://www.kennys.ie/shop/the-carbon-footprint-of-everything-9781771645768

I also have a copy of Leo Hickman’s A Good Live. I had originally read his account of a year living ethically, but this is the handy handbook version, which has been around for a long while https://dublincity.spydus.ie/cgi-bin/spydus.exe/FULL/WPAC/BIBENQ/214528087/4380617,1

It’s good to have something like the Whole Green Catalogue in the House, though this is very much an American publication- I’d love to see someone put one together for Ireland.
I have a whole bookshelf of similar books, so if you have any ideas or suggestions, or if you would like to borrow or trade books like these, do get in touch.
