I was working on saying something about Bus Connects, but David O’Connor has covered almost everything in The Dublin Inquirer here: https://www.dublininquirer.com/2018/09/18/david-so-what-s-the-story-with-bus-connects
I will be making a submission at https://www.research.net/r/BusConnects regarding:
- Community link services
- Increased services on Tyrconnell Road and Bluebell ( including coordination with Bus Éireann route 126)
- Links for Gaelscoil kids to get up to Coláiste Chiaráin
- The possibility of rerouting The C spine down Chapelizod road and using Bus Eireann on the bypass
Hi
Having commuted in Dublin for years and put up with the current network I broadly welcome the planned changes and in particular the simplified setup. However, I have noticed a few gaps:
1. Is there to be a consideration of local link type services for communities which traditionally have been linked together by the social aspect of Dublin bus services? Communities with a settled elderly population will need something of this nature.
2. Could the C spine and proposed route 14 be reversed so that the high frequency of buses pass through the village of Chapelizod, which has a large apartment based population and some very busy bus stops in the mornings? If some bus eireann services could be interfaced with the network at Liffey valley or Palmerstown this might allow for extra capacity.
3. There is a gap around the Tyrconnell Road end of Inchicore: could consideration be given to putting a bus gate on Jamestown Road and running at least half of the G spine buses by Tyrconnell Road, through Jamestown Road, Kylemore way and then down Kylemore Road to Ballyfermot?
4. For optimal connection current bus stop locations need to be revised. Many bus stops are sited a long distance from junctions. The current westbound bus stops on Con Colbert Road are suitable examples, as for traffic reasons they are miles from anything. Frequently passengers miss buses which they can see. The location of both bus stops on Victoria Quay are similar, and in fact, during work on the Guinness Brewery a number of years ago, the bus stop nearest Watling Street on Victoria Quay was moved to facilitate construction traffic, but never moved back to facilitate residents.
5. I have already made a submission via the website regarding kids from Gaelscoil Inse Chór progressing to Coláiste Chillian, Clondalkin. I would very much appreciate if their needs were considered, noting that an efficient interface is something teenagers should be able to manage.
Le meas,
